Mud and Stardust
Opening Reception: Saturday, February 20th, 2 pm
Rebecca Padgett’s abstract paintings are powerful statements in colour and composition. Moving pure high quality pigments with intuitive yet practiced gestures with wide brushes and squeegees, Padgett leaves thick pools of paint to dry next to smooth thin swaths creating tone and light with a stark economy of material. These works show a new level of clarity in her practice: a bold confidence that relies less on texture, giving way to an interest in shape. The resulting compositions, though inspired from vintage fabrics, silhouettes and open spaces, look otherworldly.
Padgett is based just outside of Peterborough, Ontario and paints in her studio on a cattle farm.
