January 13 – March 4, 2012
Opening Reception: Friday, January 13, 7 – 9 pm
Streaming Alterity explores the recent histories of feminist activism, anti-racism, animal drag, and the poetics of personal journeys, featuring works by Rebecca Belmore (Vancouver), Emelie Chhangur, Johanna Householder, Pamila Matharu (Toronto), Nadia Myre (Montréal), Natalie Wood, and Christina Zeidler (Toronto). These works put into play terms like alterity and critical pedagogy, signifying a balance between theory and practice. Featuring both video and sculptural artworks, Streaming Alterity looks at received notions of otherness, offering a means to (re)negotiate and subvert binary opposites in modernist culture including order/chaos, nature/culture, mind/body, reality/illusion, and high art/low art.
Curated by Pamela Edmonds and Carla Garnet
Featuring Christina Zeidler, Johanna Householder and Tin Vespers.
Don’t miss this exceptional multi-disciplinary performance and catalogue launch on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Showplace Performance Centre Lounge.
