Laurie De Camillis

A painting of soft blue and white winter sky with yellow, green and brown stylized forest bands intersecting a snow covered field

Ski Hill #1, 2010, oil on canvas 24” x 24”

About the Artist:

After graduating from the Vancouver School of Art, Laurie lectured at the school now known as Emily Carr University and went on to teach at the Banff Centre, and for the Federation of Canadian Artists. She has participated in several museum exhibitions and has shown widely in Canada and the U.S., both in group and solo exhibitions. Laurie is a member of the OSA, SCA and a founding member of the Canadian Art Collective. She currently lives and works in Toronto.

She writes, “My focus now is plein air painting.  I find myself outdoors with my paints, completely engaged with my subject, without the intrusion of the drawing or the photograph. I want to be with my subject in the moment, to finish the work in one sitting, to be totally immersed with every brush stroke and every colour and place them in direct relation to each other. No going over and no touching up. I want to present the energy and show the magic of the relationships of that moment.”
