About the Artist:

“The Turbulent Heart referenced in this painting is my own: an emotional, subjective response to being in today’s world, this place of political and social upheaval, riven by dangerous imbalances.

I work in an intuitive, instinctive manner, completely immersed in the moment. Colour is always my starting point and arguably the most important element of my work.

For the past 30 years I have lived on the edge of the Canadian Shield surrounded by water, trees and a dramatic, shifting skyscape. Fall colour, florid sunsets, crystalline night skies, and the stunning instant absence that is a lunar eclipse, this light diffuses and dances its way into the play of colour and line that becomes a painting. Each of my paintings begins as an idea about landscape, then finishes with its essence intact, if rarely a recognizable image.

With Turbulent Heart XI, I have further blurred my core references to landscape, moving more directly into the emotional world of current events.” – Molly Moldovan

A visual artist whose primary focus is abstraction, Molly Moldovan has lived and worked in North Kawartha since graduating OCA(D) with honours in (fine art drawing and painting.

Working in acrylic and mixed media on various substrates, recent work has explored such diverse themes as democracy, international politics, the AIDS pandemic, familial relationships, surviving cancer and, always, the abstract nature of our shared universe.
