Bluebird Encounter

Bluebird Encounter
Performed by Madeleine Brown
Directed by Karthy Chin
Saturday June 4 from 2pm – 4pm
In a moment of self-discovery, a writer on a research trip unlocks voices from the past through an incredible encounter with three birds.
Â
Bluebird Encounter is a ten-minute monologue, blending poetry and prose, adapted by Madeleine Brown from the writings of poet and biographer Molly Peacock including her critically-acclaimed The Paper Garden: Mrs. Delany Begins Her Life’s Work at 72 and Flower Diary: Mary Hiester Reid Paints, Travels, Marries, & Opens a Door.
Inspired by and staged in Michèle Karch-Ackerman’s exhibition Ghost Seamstress, Bluebird Encounter originally premiered in 2018 in Toronto’s Campbell House Museum as part of Bluebird Dress Factory.
The performance is followed by a conversation with Molly Peacock, Michèle Karch-Ackerman, Karthy Chin and Madeleine Brown (moderator). Attendees will then have the opportunity to visit Ghost Seamstress, and purchase and have signed a copy of Flower Diary.
