July 15 to 19: TexStyles with Linda Warren
9 am to 4 pm
Ages 7 and up
$170 for a full week

Experiment with stitching, weaving, and dying. Discover the range of creativity available in the fibre arts. Make something practical or create a fibre art piece of pure fun.

  • Monday – Stitch This: Sew a monster stuffy and a bag to carry it in.
  • Tuesday – Weaving Wonders:  Use a loom to design a weaving project
  • Wednesday – Knits + Knots: Learn knitting, knot techniques and macramé
  • Thursday – Felt It: From sheep fleece to felt! Make creative projects including felt shapes and animals.
  • Friday – Tie-Dyed T’s: Create a fabulous colourful t-shirt!

Make fabulous masks of your favourite animals and life-size puppets to wear in the end-of-week parade.

August 12 to 16: Constructions Take Flight with Judith Mason
9 am to 4 pm
Ages 7 and up
$170 for a full week

For the love of building! Work with paper, cardboard and wire to build abstract sculptures, mobiles, and environments. Experiment with surfaces, textures and depth and movement to make art that is fun and fanciful. See where your imagination can fly!

August 19 to 23: Animation for Teens with Daniel Crawford
9 am to 4 pm
Ages 11 and up
$195 per week

Students will draw inspiration from contemporary stop-motion artists and learn about the history of animation. Students will work through the full animation process including camera set up and shooting, character and story creation, set building, filming and more. All levels of experience are encouraged.

Art Camp Instructors 2019

Daniel Crawford has a BA from Trent University and a BFA from Nova Scotia College of Art & Design University. He is a practicing artist and has taught animation, mixed media, and storytelling at NSCADU in Halifax NS, and the Latcham Gallery in Stouffville.

Judith Mason is an artist, educator and curator with a passion for creativity. Her own work includes paintings, mixed-media installations and performance. Judith has been teaching for 25 years and is currently an art and drama instructor at the Canadian International School of Egypt in Cairo.

Laurel Paluck is the Artistic Director of Atelier Ludmila and the mask-maker behind Peterborough’s Winter Solstice performances. She has trained at the Ontario College of Art, Toronto School of Art, Humber College Puppetry Intensive and the Royal Academy Artist in Education Program, and brings curriculum-based art programming to schools and workshops for all ages.

Linda Warren studied art education at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She has 34 years teaching experience at all school levels in Ontario and eastern Canada. Linda is inspired by the creative potential in everyone.

The AGP Education Team is comprised of art instructors, gallery staff and youth volunteers who work together to make a lively, fun and safe atmosphere for learning and creating. Join the 2018 Youth Volunteer Team for ages 14 and up.

The City of Peterborough offers a Recreational Fee Subsidy Program to assist with the cost of children’s’ programs. Contact the Peterborough Recreation Division at 705 742 7777 ext. 1827 to apply.

General Information:

  • Artist-instructors deliver programs with gallery staff and the assistance of the Youth Volunteer Team.
  • Registration is capped at 17 students per class (12 for teen class) to allow for individual attention. Pre-registration and full payment are required. AGP members receive a 10% discount.
  • Guardians will be asked to complete a Health Information Form prior to the start of class.
  • Supervision is provided 15 minutes prior to and following the program.
  • Please provide a nut-free snack, and a lunch for all-day classes.
  • Dress for the weather: children should be prepared to play and create outside.
  • Unless otherwise specified, the Art Gallery of Peterborough reserves the right to photograph all programs for future promotional purposes.
  • In the event of insufficient registrations or emergencies, the AGP may have to cancel or substitute programs. A full refund or credit will be available.
  • Refund Policy: refunds may be requested up to three business days prior to the start of the program and are subject to a 10% administration fee (minimum $5). No refunds will be issued after the course begins.
