Today we’re sharing “Cloverleaf” by Clive Powsey from the AGP Permanent Collection.

Born in Ashford, Kent, UK, Clive Powsey came to Canada to study drawing, painting and printmaking at the Ontario College of Art. From 1985 to 2016, he worked in animated film and television as an art director and background artist for companies like Walt Disney Animation Canada and Nelvana Ltd. His credits include tv specials, theatrical releases, commercials, animated shorts, and tv series, including: The Care Bears, Franklin the Turtle, and Rupert the Bear.

Powsey has taught at the Ontario College of Art (1988-92) and the Max the Mutt Animation School (1999-2003) in Toronto. He has exhibited in both solo and group shows since 1981, including a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Peterborough in 1986. Powsey is a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour and currently lives and paints in British Columbia.

We did a little digging in the City of Peterborough Directories (shout out to the Peterborough Museum and Archives for their work digitizing them) and found out that the Cloverleaf Variety & Lunch Bar was located at 226 Lake St., right around the corner from the gallery!
