Land Acknowledgement
The Art Gallery of Peterborough is located on the Treaty 20 Michi Saagiig territotry and in the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa Nations, collectively known as the Williams Treaties First Nations, which include: Curve Lake, Hiawatha, Alderville, Scugog Island, Rama, Beausoleil, and Georgina Island First Nations.
The Art Gallery of Peterborough is committed to working actively with the First Nation communities of this region, to stand with them as they steward their land and culture. We honour the river named in Anishinaabemowin as the Otonabee, originally known for its rapids. As it translates into “the river that beats like a heart” so to do we strive to keep our culture alive through active discourse and engagement.
The Art Gallery of Peterborough respectfully offers its gratitude to the First Peoples for their care for, and teachings about, our earth and our relations.
May those teachings be honoured.
