Education Assistant (YCW)
Duration: 14 weeks, May 26 – August 29, 2025
35 hours per week, $18.44/hr
The Education Assistant (EA) is an essential part of the AGP team and will work closely with the Curator, Education Programming Coordinator, Communications & Volunteer Coordinator, and AGP Art Educators during an integral section of our programming schedule. The AGP provides important programming and access to art and art education in our region. With a small staff, the EA is integrated quickly into most aspects of education and outreach programming, and they are afforded many opportunities to make an impactful contribution. The EA’s role will primarily be to assist with the development and delivery of education programs, both in person and online. The AGP is a prime environment in which to gain hands-on experience in art education for all ages, allowing core staff to continue the day-to-day activities and develop programs for the future. The role of the Education Assistant is to ensure the quality and continuity of our summer education programming and to assist in the development of future programs.
Our ideal candidate should have a background in education or a studio art practice; a combination of both is strongly preferred. They should also have a keen interest and demonstrated background in working with children and youth. Experience leading small groups of children/peers is considered an asset. Experience in Volunteer Management and Customer Service is also an asset.
The ideal candidate will be required to provide (or obtain) a current criminal reference check with vulnerable sector check (if 18 or older), First Aid and Accessible Customer Service training, as a condition of employment. Computer skills required: Word, Excel. Photoshop is considered an asset.

Curatorial and Public Programs Assistant (YCW)
Duration: 14 weeks, May 26 – August 29, 2025
35 hours per week, $18.44/hr
Though temporary, the Curatorial and Public Programs Assistant (CPPA) is an essential part of the AGP team and will work closely with the Director and Curator. The AGP provides important programming and access to art with a small staff, which will allow the CPPA to integrate quickly into most aspects of curatorial work and make a strong contribution to the gallery through outreach and engagement programming. The AGP is a prime environment in which to gain hands-on experience with art handling and an in-depth understanding of the behind-the-scenes work required to present exhibitions and engage the public. Core staff will be able to continue day-to-day activities while the contributions of the CPPA will allow us to create additional access points to exhibitions, collection, and programming beyond our regular capacity. The CPPA’s work will centre on three main tasks: public engagement, collection research, and art handling.
Our ideal candidate will have a background in contemporary art and an interest in pursuing a career in the field and will have prior experience volunteering or working in a gallery setting. They will be in their second or third year of a University degree in an arts or arts related program. As this work plan centres around three main tasks – art handling, research, and public engagement – the ideal candidate will demonstrate experience and interest in each area. Knowledge of studio or curatorial practice, art history or arts administration would be an advantage. Research and critical thinking skills from a related field of study will also be considered an asset (arts education, history, Canadian studies, Indigenous studies, cultural studies, and literature). This position requires working with artists, the public and volunteers. Strong interpersonal skills and experience dealing with the public in Visitor Services and group dynamics in a courteous and effective manner is essential. The successful candidate will have organizational and problem-solving skills and be computer literate.
