Artist Talk: David Kilabuk
Thursday, October 2, 2025 | 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Photographer David Kilabuk will present an artist talk sharing his work through which he captures the immense beauty of Inuit Nunangat as well as the wildlife, vegetation, and wonderful people of Panniqtuuq (Pangnirtung, NU). Guided by lessons from his father who studied the skies for hunting and taught him to read the weather, light, and shifting patterns of the season, David’s photographs capture life in step with the rhythms of land, weather, and time.

David Kilabuk is a photographer based in Panniqtuuq (Pangnirtung), NU who captures the stories of his home community through photography. He was selected as one of “Six Photographers to Watch” in the Winter 2016 issue of Inuit Art Quarterly.
As the unofficial photographer of Panniqtuuq, his patience, skill and sensitivity as a photographer have, for over 25 years, resulted in iconic photographs of contemporary Inuit life and the surrounding natural world, appearing in Up Here Magazine, Nunatsiaq News, CBC North, Canadian Geographic, and included in the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada.
He won the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers (2017) and Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee Medal (2002) for both citizenship and photography.
Location: Canadian Canoe Museum, Gathering Room
This event is free to attend and open to the public. No registration required.
Attendees will have an opportunity to visit the Canoe Museum’s exhibitions after the talk.
