Creative explorations for our youngest budding artists

The Art Gallery of Peterborough offers Art Start! a program for young children looking to learn art basics in a structured camp environment. Designed for children aged 4–6, this program offers fun, experimental activities and projects designed to foster an appreciation and excitement for art-making from a young age.

February:
Texture Time

Saturday, February 28, 2026

1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Suitable for ages 4-6

From soft to scratchy, children will explore texture using a variety of materials including fabric, felt, foil, and cardboard to build dynamic, sensory art.

This is a registered program.

Fee: $35 | $31.50 AGP Members: Tier 3 and up

March:
Collage Creatures

Saturday, March 28, 2026

1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Suitable for ages 4-6

Children will cut, tear, and glue to create imaginary animals and creatures using a variety of colourful papers and recycled materials.

This is a registered program.

Fee: $35 | $31.50 AGP Members: Tier 3 and up

April:
My First Self Portrait

Saturday, April 25, 2026

1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Suitable for ages 4-6

Using shadows and simple drawing techniques, children will create playful self-portraits that encourage observation and creativity.

This is a registered program.

Fee: $35 | $31.50 AGP Members: Tier 3 and up

Past Programs

Big Brush Painting January 31, 2026
Children will experiment with large brushes and bold strokes to create oversized, expressive paintings with plenty of movement and colour.

Winter Wonderland December 27, 2025
Let it snow! Using paint, paper, and sparkles, children will create winter-themed artworks inspired by snowflakes, stars, and seasonal magic.
