Carol Forbes | Between the Lines
October 29, 2022 - January 15, 2023
What might happen if we let our bodies guide our steps untethered from a predetermined path? What might we discover? In painting, Carol Forbes lets her intuition lead her. With a sense of adventure and trust, she mixes fields of colour with gestural marks. Each new mark opens up new possibilities. Spending time with each, she is guided by what feels right. Forbes observes, “There is a certain chaos as each work unfolds in the adding and subtracting of materials. As a work evolves, the process becomes a delicate integration of spontaneity and restraint.”
Carol Forbes is a Peterborough painter whose work is abstract and process-driven. She was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but has lived her adult life in the Kawarthas. She studied art at the Haliburton School of Art and Design, after teaching psychology for many years at Fleming College.
