Lyn Carter: 11th Line
January 21, 2017 - April 23, 2017
Titled after the rural road where artist Lyn Carter lives and works, 11th Line explores one of the most fundamental textile design elements the stripe and its graphic relationship to the landscape, evoking horizon lines, road grids, and furrowed fields. Alongside historical artifacts from the Textile Museum of Canadas international collection that highlight the complex spatial organization of lines, bands, and stripes, the artists highly crafted sewn sculptures, drawings on paper, video, and digitally printed fabric are poetic translations of the rhythms and patterns of personal space and vernacular architectures that are part of daily experience.
11th Line is curated by Sarah Quinton and organized by the Textile Museum of Canada with the support of the Anne Angus Contemporary Program Fund. The artist acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council for the development of the exhibition.
