Private: Peter Barron
Originally from the Welland, Ontario area, Peter Barron studied sculpture and printmaking at OCA and the University of Guelph. For almost fifty years, Peter Barron has maintained a painting studio in downtown Peterborough since the mid 1970’s that he shares with his partner and fellow artist micky renders. He continues to paint daily in a third-floor studio in the arts district’s historic Commerce Building. His paintings have been exhibited extensively in Ontario, and throughout the city’s galleries. His printed work has shown at print fairs, and biennials in Russia, Seoul (South Korea), Trois Rivières (Quebec), Montreal, Ottawa, Sofia (Bulgaria), Finland, Connecticut (USA) and has been artist in residence at Pouch Cove Artist Residency in Newfoundland.
“My work over the past few years has been focused on the natural environment. The tradition of landscape painting has a strong footing in Canadian culture and is of particular significance given the threats facing our natural world. Through the genre of landscape painting, I have created a variety of pieces from small/medium plein air paintings, to larger studio experiments, along with drawings and watercolours.” – Peter Barron
