Flowers and Photography

Opening Reception: Thursday July 12, 7 pm to 9 pm

Flowers and Photography invites viewers to consider why flowers continue to be a favourite subject of women artists. Enlisting the garden subject as one that is reflective of contemporary theories about art, nature and the ordering of knowledge, the show features the blooming pictures of Sara Angelucci, Barbara Astman, Suzy Lake, Sasha YungJu Lee, Dyan Marie and Lori Newdick. This group exhibition displays the appeal of the contemporary floral subject, while also exploring the inherited notions of the symbolic function of flower imagery.

Flowers and Photography Catalogue: An exhibition catalogue was produced in partnership with the McMaster Museum of Art, who presented Flowers and Photography in the summer of 2013. This publication includes essays by curator Carla Garnet, Edward Colless and Sally McKay, which bring insightful perspective on this selection of works by these significant women artists.

Curated by Carla Garnet.

Regular Hours: Wednesday to Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. Admission is by Donation.
