About the artist:

Anne Hoover graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCADU) in 1985. She has also studied at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver. Anne has operated a successful graphic design business for over 35 years. In addition, she has maintained her own art practice and has been teaching life drawing for the past 14 years and, more recently, portraiture and expressive drawing.

Recent exhibitions include the Propeller Art Gallery, Toronto; Minden’s Agnes Jamieson Gallery, the Art Gallery of Bancroft, Artworks Juried Show in Oakville. In 2020, Anne was elected to the Ontario Society of Artists and the Colour and Form Society. This is her third year participating in the Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour.

“My focus has always been the human form, through both drawing and painting (portraiture, hands, figure). My current practice explores the balance between accuracy and recognition by depicting the human form using free mark-making to distort the edge between abstraction and realism. Portraiture (and self-portraiture) is a passion of mine, and through which I believe it possible to capture both spirit and mood, a sense of the person and our human connection.”
