About the Artist:

Jenny Kastner holds a BA in History and Cultural Studies and a BEd from OISE; she taught highschool for 6 years before dedicating herself solely to her art practice.  Her work has been shown at Koyman Galleries in Ottawa and Gallery On The Lake in Buckhorn and has been featured by internationally acclaimed arts and culture blogs, Booooooom and My Modern Met, as well as She-explores, a blog about women connecting to the outdoors.

Jenny currently works from her home studio where Clear Lake meets Stoney, a dynamic biodiverse physical meeting place in Ontario where the granite rock of the Canadian Shield meets the limestone of the Lowlands, magically termed ‘The Land Between.’  Her work is in private collections across Canada and the US, Barbados, South Africa, Australia, France and the UK.

“Gestural and graphic in nature, my work conveys a particular experience of place by capturing both subtle and apparent movement and playing up the vibrance of the landscape as I see it.  This intense static depiction of place invites viewers to imagine moving through the composition, and acts as a portal to a much deeper imagined three-dimensional experience. I work from video and photographs as well as memory, composing sketches and studies before executing a large painting.” – Jenny Kastner
