About the artists:

Thomas Aitken & Kate Hyde collaborate on the design and creation of functional ceramics that unite Thomas’ strong forms and Kate’s interest in colour & surface embellishment. Their eclectic and playful imagery reference a variety of sources including the history of ceramics, theatre, textiles and illustration.

Thomas holds a BFA in Ceramics, from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, Canada and Kate received her BA(Hons) in Textiles from Middlesex Polytechnic, Department of Art and Design, London, UK. They met whilst studying at the Masters program in Ceramics, at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff, UK. In 1997 they set up a studio in Toronto, Canada. Five years later they moved their home and studio to the village of Warsaw, where they work full time developing their own art and collaborating on joint projects.

Thomas and Kate’s work is held in public collections including: The Gardiner Museum, The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Government of Ontario Art Collection and in private collections in Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia and USA.
