About the Artist:

Christianna studied International Development and Women’s Studies at Trent University and Experiential Education at Queen’s University. For the past five years she has focused primarily on felt making. Through the felt making process of laying out wool fibres and adding water, soap.

Christianna Ferguson is a textile artist and educator with a full time studio practice in Lakefield Ontario. Her work is firmly rooted in the study and craft of feltmaking and incorporates, dying, hand-stitching and machine embroidery. She is continually intrigued by the simplicity of the process and how it can be applied in infinitely complicated ways. The fragility of a single strand of fibre and how  entangling many fibres creates a fabric of incredible strength is a meaningful symbol woven within the process itself.

“My […] practice involves a combination of creating functional felted objects, wearable pieces and conceptual textile art which explores narratives of what it is to be human and the connections between us.  In all my work I look to experiment  with colour, texture, surface design, and form.  Always looking to expand the possibilities of what I can create and express with the material.” – Christianna Ferguson
